Okkito

"Okkito is a parody of housing corporations. It interrogates influences on land speculation and relationship between housing- corporation and individual, where urbanites are regarded as users. Okkito, criticizes corporation’s not having a social or a grounded philosophy of housing policy, and additionally their approach to the liberal network of estate, competing with private and foreign companies for land; their in-between position through reflections in the urban fabric. In the postmodern and slippery context of today, in betweenness is deciphered through reflections of political decisions on urban space and housing policies.

Okkito aims to explore and negotiate the potential of an imageless and unmediated form of housing. It brings into open multiple meanings of dwelling as a humanistic need and a self-organizing system. Between privatization and commodification of land, it questions the condition of contemporary house and urbanite and effects of dependability and credibility of media. Okkito is a question of articulation of the urbanite through his/her house to the city. In-betweenness is approached as critics of housing production with respect to reflections on urban fabric".

Okkito was realized as a part of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture, "Lives and Works in Istanbul", "In Between" workshop conducted by Antoni Muntadas. The project was also a part of the PhD thesis of Esen Gökçe Özdamar entitled as "A RE-READING OF NARRATIVE OF CONTEMPORARY HOUSING IN CONTEXT OF URBAN DYNAMICS: ISTANBUL, VIENNA, AMSTERDAM" in Istanbul Technical University, Institute of Science and Technology and supervised by Prof. Dr. Semra Aydınlı. The project was sponsored by Istanbul 2010 Visual Art Directorate and two construction firms.

Exhibited in  Design Society in partnership with the Danish Design Centre, Copenhagen, 03.10-07.11.2014 Link: http://landartgenerator.org/LAGI-2014/ http://landartgenerator.org/LAGI-2014/13078035/ Windship is a project located on a pier in Refshaleøen island in Copenhagen’s harbor. Resembling the area’s industrial environment, which has housed a shipyard in its history, the design aims to recall this site-specific atmosphere and “technical landscape”. The design suggests the use of wind energy as a primary source of energy in this location. Although other energy sources such as tidal / wave energy and solar systems can be used in the harbor; it can be estimated that wind energy can be more efficient in long-term planning regarding the area’s small scale environment. Besides, regarding city plans on waterfront use of old har...
