Windship
is a project located on a pier in Refshaleøen island in Copenhagen’s
harbor. Resembling the area’s industrial environment, which has housed a
shipyard in its history, the design aims to recall this site-specific
atmosphere and “technical landscape”.
The
design suggests the use of wind energy as a primary source of energy in this
location. Although other energy sources such as tidal / wave energy and solar
systems can be used in the harbor; it can be estimated that wind energy can be
more efficient in long-term planning regarding the area’s small scale
environment. Besides, regarding city plans on waterfront use of old harbor areas
for swimming and other recreational activities, we can assume that Refshaleøen
island has a potential to benefit from the sea its future use.
